In the book the aliens are farming the humans for food. The aliens have undergone many surgeries to fit into human skin. The book is more dedicated to the theme: what if we were being treated the way we treat farm animals? This is a rare example of the movie being better than the book.
Under the Skin is the only book that I have closed and thought “Wow, that book is smarter than me.” Now, that may sound uppity and probably makes me sound like I think I am ridiculously intelligent and have never been challenged by a book in my life. Can I just say that’s not my point at all.
The essay is part of Jason’s audiovisual book The Chemistry of Character in Breaking Bad, and may seem out of place when compared to the rest of the book’s essays, but its inclusion reminds us that the use of objects in the show is just as deliberate and carefully constructed as the characters and their stories, and thus just as worthy of examination.
Under the Skin, is unique as an in depth psychoanalytic study of body modification, and needs to be recognized and commended for its insightfulness and the comprehensive integration of psychoanalysis with cultural studies, literature, art and film. It is a powerful, well written treatise in the growing field of body modification.

This was a great analysis, picked up things I didn't, but I can't recommend the book enough. It differs a lot from the film and, what I think is, a better a story told. I was weary of this when it came out because I loved the book so much but it's a brilliant new look at an already creepy story. Also the bit when his skin gets sucked out, fuck me!
Under the Skin is a reviewer's nightmare and a reader's dream: a book so distinctive, so elegantly written and so original that all one can say is simply to experience it. An extraordinary first book.. Was a good read - I saw the movie before reading this and the book provided some answers to questions I was left with. I normally am ok with.
